The recently crowned six-time European Mountain Running Champion, Ahmet Arslan from Turkey set a new course-record 1.07.06 for the second time (1.07.38 last year). The total pricemoney for Ahmet Arslan was NOK 100.000 (13.700 Euros) . The 1.prize was NOK 30.000 ( 4.100 Euros). In addition NOK 70.000 ( 9.500 Euros) for new course-record. Arslan was 2 minutes and 31 seconds ahead of Jonathan Wyatt, New Zealand (Six time WMRA World Mountain Running Champion ).
In the women-class the former European Champion, Mountain Running Uphill (2007) and World-Mountain-Running-long-distance Champion (2007), Anita Håkenstad Evertsen , Norway (44) made a successful comeback in second position 1.22.46, only 24 seconds behind the winner and former WMRA world mountain running champion Angela Mudge, Scotland (42). Anita is still the race-record holder, 1.20.06 (2008).
The Skaala Uphill Mountain race has every year since it was started in 2002 been the largest and most famous ( national and international) mountain-race in Norway that have the finish line on the summit of a mountain. A magnificent race, spectacular and breathtaking wiew from the finishline 1848 metres above the Fjord ( Nordfjord) and the startline in the village Loen. Skaala 1848 metres above sea level is the highest mountain in Norway having the footh in the Fjord.
The Skaala Uphill-race initiated the new Mountain Running Movement in Norway. From five races in 2002 , more than 150 uphill races took place in Norway in 2011. 45.000 runners participated. Uphill Mountain Running is still on the rise in Norway.
The Skaala Uphill is the best illustration of the Norwegian style of mountain running. There is no downhill racing at all, thanks to the very steep and rocky trails. The finish line is situated on the absolute summit as it is at the top of Skaala 1848 m above the fjord.
